So since the iPad announcement (only shocker was the price, and lack of even a 1mp camera) everyone's wondering what a
Micro SIM card is and how they can get one. Being unlocked is awesome, had it supported the more common Mini SIM (only 13mm or so bigger) one could have used it in WiFi mode and occasionally popped in our phone's SIM when in a jam. This is not elegant, but it would have worked. As it stands now however, you'd have to ask your carrier to give you a Micro SIM with no phone features and just data. While it would be in all carriers' interests to say: "Not a problem Sir/Madam," I suspect that isn't going to happen, especially in places where carriers have a virtual monopoly, like say, the U.A.E. or Switzerland.
Outside of that, why would a 1+mp camera have been awesome? Barcode scanning. Seriously. Both 1D and 2D ones should be seen as a basic fact of life these days.
Wouldn't it further be interesting if the 3G version actually worked as a less mobile phone? All the other required circuitry and software seems to be available. I guess they really want you to add an iPhone to this purchase.
Oh,
Engadget claims to explain the issue, but
PC World does a better job. What I don't understand are the M2M features that get referenced, or why it can't just have one name instead of the A.K.A. 3FF monkier.
