Regarding the fire, there are sparks flying from the building 285 Grand street, and water is getting sprayed onto the sparks as they fall. The NYC Buildings crew is up on the smaller crane sawing through the fire-escape's metal and throwing it down bit by bit.
The street closing remain as:
Grand being closed between Allen and Forsyth.
Eldridge being closed from Hester to Grand.
Foot traffic can reach the eastern corners of Eldridge, but cannot turn south. You can cut between Allen and Eldridge at the south by going through a parking lot. On the west side you can approach up to the Pho Grand building both north and south sides. This leaves a number of groceries and shops closed on Grand.
Today I saw the cool jacket that an NYC Buildings Department Engineer gets to wear. It's like one of those LA County Coroner jackets except with the word "ENGINEER" on it.
